For those that are seeking alternatives to taking medication, there are many techniques that can help, but they range in difficulty.

One of easiest and most common tricks to use when suffering a panic attack is to breathe into a paper bag. It helps to calm you down and get you breathing normally again. This is a technique that you use only during or immediately after an attack because it reduces the amount of oxygen that goes to your brain.

You may also want to use relaxing techniques that can help you unwind if you feel an attack coming on. There are cd’s that have soothing sounds that can do the trick. Try nature, waves, or anything else you may prefer. If you do not want to go out and buy a CD, try just humming your favorite tune in your head.
